Find PU Chitra Personal life, Success stories, and previous achievements. PU Chitra is a track and field athlete from Mundur in Kerala’s Palakkad District. She has won numerous states, national and international school meet gold medals in middle and long distance track events.

PU Chitra – Personal Life

PU Chitra was born on June 9, 1995, at Mundur, Kerala. She is the third of four children of Unnikrishnan and Vasantha Kumari, both are agricultural labors from Kerala. Completed education from Mundur Higher Secondary School in Palakkad.  Definitely, the reason behind her success is because of her parents. Even they live in a poor family background, hard work made her a superstar.

She got immense support from local Kerala peoples even campaigns conducted on social media when despite her spectacular win at Bhubaneswar, PU Chitra wasn’t included in India’s squad for the London World Championship.  The hashtag #Isupportchitra went viral on Facebook with supports including Kerala Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

PU Chitra, the gold medallist in 1,500-meter race in the Asian Athletic Championships, will get a scholarship of Rs. 10, 000 per month with a daily allowance of Rs. 500 for training and food expenses than scholarship.

The other keralite athlete CK Vineeth was earlier working with the Accountant General Office under sports quota, was terminated from service because of poor attendance.  However, the Pinarayi Vijayan took an immediate action and appointed in government service on par with the post of Secretariat Assistant.

PU Chitra – Achievements

# 2017 – Gold medal in 1500m race in 5th Asian Indore and Martial Arts Games, Ashgabat, Turkmenistan & Gold medal in 1500m race in 22nd Asian Athletic Championship and recorded her best time 4.17.92

# 2016- Won Gold medal in 1500m race in 12th South Asian Games. Time: 4:25.59

# 2013 – Won gold medal in 3000m race in the first ever Asian school athletic meet, Gold medal in 1500m, 3000m, 5000m, Indian National School Games, Etowah, UP & Gold medal in 1500m, 3000m and 5000m race in 57th Kerala State School Games, Ernakulum
